The golden axe is a recurring weapon in the Dragon Quest franchise. The Golden Axe is noteworthy for being one of the few weapons that decreases in attack power when "upgraded", which reflects the real world status of gold being a soft metal. However, this developer prank is mitigated by the fact that the Golden Axe can be upgraded into the much more powerful Moon axe and King Axe.
