The golden axe is a recurring weapon in the Dragon Quest franchise. The Golden Axe is noteworthy for being one of the few weapons that decreases in attack power when "upgraded", which reflects the real world status of gold being a soft metal. However, this developer prank is mitigated by the fact that the Golden Axe can be upgraded into the much more powerful Moon axe and King Axe.
Appearances
Dragon Quest VIII
The golden axe has an attack bonus of +27, and can be upgraded to the moon axe with a Moon's mercy, and into the king axe via a Slime crown.
Recipe: Iron axe + Gold nugget
Dragon Quest IX
The golden axe has an attack bonus of +26. Golden axes can be made using Alchemy by using an Iron Axe and a Gold Bar. The Golden Axe is noteworthy for being one of the few weapons that decreases in attack power when "upgraded" (along with weapons that are combined with a Reset Stone). In addition to the moon and king axes, the golden axe can be upgraded further on into the Kaiser Axe, Ice Axe, and Avalanche Axe.
