The Gripevine is a monster in the Dragon Quest series. In earlier translations, it was known as Rosevine.

Description

The gripevine is a large, carnivorous plant based on the infamous rafflesia flower of southeast Asia. Its body is a bulb-like flower with a long tongue and sharp teeth, supported by a tangle of leafy vines. It uses two longer thorn-covered vines to attack, along with ferociously fetid fragrances.

Rumor has it that when the gripevine reaches maturity, it will unfurl its bud and begin life anew as a Thornella.

The Rosevine can be found in the Engow region in Disc 2, the Dharma region in Disc 2, the Falrod region in Disc 2, and Mount Flame in Disc 2. The Rosevine has the rare chance of dropping a Rosevine Heart, allowing one party member to become a Rosevine when it is taken to the Temple of Dharma.
