The hero of Dragon Quest IX is a male or female who was originally a Celestrian. The hero's mission was to collect benevolessences (star auras in the Japanese version) to power Yggdrasil. The Celestrians are trying to get into God's Land, and powering the World Tree is the only way. After giving the tree five benevolessences, which causes the tree to bear fyygs, a disaster occurs which sends the hero to Earth. When the hero wakes up, he/she has lost his/her wings and halo.
A unique feature in the game is that you design the hero. You choose its gender, height, shade of skin, hair style, hair color, eyes, eye color, and name. You also design your party members, so it is possible to make all party members look the same.
The Hero, along with the other Heroes of the series, is playable in Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road II Legend. In that game, the Hero is depicted as a male angel.
Class and Skills
Hero always starts out as a Minstrel. He/She possesses a few unique skills. For example, they start out with "Egg On" and will learn Zoom after returning to the Celestrian Observatory aboard the Starlight Express.
