The Hero of the twelfth game was revealed during a livestream presentation celebrating the Dragon Quest series 40th anniversary on May 27th, 2026. The Hero's concept art was put on display during Dragon Quest the DIVE, a VR event held from June 17th through September 12th of 2026.

Appearance and personality[edit]

This Hero is a muscular adolescent wearing a tattered black shirt with one sleeve torn off and saffron-coloured pants that droop just above his knees. His sword resembles the common soldier's sword but with a red grip and wider crescent hand guard. His armour is a strap that covers his heart and left shoulder along with a girdle that covers his waist and lower ribs. These are complimented by wrist protectors and greaves reinforced with a metal stud, and he also wears a blue belt possessing femur and groin guards. The belt possesses metals studs, and has a metal emblem with an unknown mark set into it. The Hero has an asymmetrical hairstyle that resembles a mohwak with shaven sides. His brown eyes framed by narrow brows and heavy bags, giving the impression that he has not been getting adequate sleep for a considerable time.

Very little has been revealed of the Hero thus far, leaving his circumstances, motivations, and history currently unknown. He does seem to possess companions, however, as the preview footage of the game also focuses on an unnamed ginger woman who seems to be working with the lad.

Sharp-eyed fans have also noticed that the humanoid dragon seen in the preview footage wears the same outfit as the Hero, but the finer details of this have not been revealed yet.
