Kaclang (アストロン, Astoron), also known as Ironize, is a spell which renders the object invulnerable, but also unable to act. It was introduced in Dragon Quest III at first exclusive to the hero class. Affects the whole party. Some monsters also have the Kaclang spell.
Seemingly useless at first glance, the spell is actually quite handy to trick an enemy into wasting all their MP, as well as scouting for their abilities.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III
In Dragon Quest III, Kaclang is learned by the hero at level 12. It has the highest action priority in the game, being cast before all other actions.
Dragon Quest IV
Kaclang is learned by the hero at level 21.
Dragon Quest V
Kaclang is only used by monsters.
Dragon Quest VI
In Dragon Quest VI DS, Kaclang is learned by the recruitable Liquid Metal Slime in level 3, when a Luminary reaches Learner (rank 2), and when a Hero becomes a Village Hero (rank 1).
It can be used by Arrghgoyles.
