Dragon QuestEdit

The lyre is an essential item for completing the game, its acquisition being one of many tests the player must complete to prove their worthiness. The harp can be traded to the man in the Rain Shrine for the Staff of Rain.

The Sage of Rain states that retrieving the lyre has been a part of longstanding tradition to test the mettle of those claiming to carry the blood of Erdrick, explaining why the instrument is hidden in such a dangerous dungeon. Due to changes to the game's structure the player will only be able to retrieve it from the Grave of Galen near the end of the title.

The lyre has fallen into the possession of the faeries in the century or so since the previous game, and obtaining it from them is purely optional.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of SalvationEdit

The lyre is hidden in the back room of Galen's House, which is the precursor to Galenholm/Grave of Galen. It can be found by searching in a specific spot. Finding the harp is a bit misleading because Galen is living in Cantlin and only gives the Hero a clue to the harp's location. Cantlin is typically visited after Galen's House, meaning the player will likely have to revisit in order to collect the instrument. The lyre serves no real purpose in Dragon Quest III, but can be used to summon monsters. Though the addition of the Whistle skill in the remakes render it a novelty item.
