Merluscs are monstrous purple sea slug that leaves trails of slime behind it. It has darker purple splotches all over its body, large eyeballs with red irises, and a disgusting tongue lolling from its mouth that is constantly drooling. They were formidable opponents in their first appearance in the NES version of ''II'', being capable of poisoning and putting foes to sleep with their toxin-coated bodies and could even land '''brutal hits''', but their power has been lessened in all remake versions of the game. The sea slugs did retain their ability to breathe out '''sweet breath'''. Its Japanese name ''Umiushi'' is the name used for sea slugs in the real world.

The Merlusc is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first introduced in Dragon Quest II. It is a purple sea-faring variant of the Maulusc.

Characteristics

Merluscs are monstrous purple sea slug that leaves trails of slime behind it. It has darker purple splotches all over its body, large eyeballs with red irises, and a disgusting tongue lolling from its mouth that is constantly drooling. They were formidable opponents in their first appearance in the NES version of II, being capable of poisoning and putting foes to sleep with their toxin-coated bodies and could even land brutal hits, but their power has been lessened in all remake versions of the game. The sea slugs did retain their ability to breathe out sweet breath. Its Japanese name Umiushi is the name used for sea slugs in the real world.
