The mink mantle, also known as the fur coat is a piece of clothing introduced in Dragon Quest II. Despite its frail appearance, the coat proves itself durable as any plate mail.

Characteristics

The mink mantle is a luxurious full-length winter coat made out of mink fur that includes a pair of boots and a fluffy fur hat. The coat buttons in the front and is embellished with numerous blue jewels. In the illustrations for the Famicom version, the coat is red with white trim, while in illustrations for the GBC version, the coat is dark blue with light blue trim. For many years, the mink mantle appeared exclusively in Dragon Quest II before making another reappearance in the 3DS version of Dragon Quest VII.

Appearances

Dragon Quest II

The mantle may be purchased in the town of Burrowell, for an exorbitant price of 65,000 gold, and can be equipped by any of the Luminaries. It is the single most expensive piece of equipment in the game. In the original NES version it provides +30 defence, and +60 in all subsequent remakes. Due to the impressive amount of defence it boasts, the mink mantle makes a worthwhile piece of final equipment for either the Prince or Princess, depending on whoever is not wearing the flowing dress and if one can afford it.

Dragon Quest VII

The mink mantle has a defence and style bonus of +65. It can only be equipped by Maribel and Aishe and appears exclusively in the 3DS version of the game. The mantle is obtained after defeating Gigantes, the boss of the Muscle Mountain DLC tablet.
