Nintendo was the creator of the main platforms for the Dragon Quest series up to and including Dragon Quest VI, as well as the publisher of the NES version of the first game in North America and the publisher of Dragon Quest IX outside of Japan. With Dragon Quest VII, Sony's Playstation became the main platform. However, Dragon Quest games continued to be released for Nintendo handheld platforms, and Dragon Quest X is being developed for Nintendo's Wii system.
