Nose For Treasure, or simply Smell, is a recurring ability/spell in the franchise. It checks the amount of remaining treasure in the current dungeon floor.

Appearances

Dragon Quest III

Dragon Quest IV

In the remakes, Torneko learns this at level 9.

Dragon Quest VI

Dragon Quest VII

Dragon Quest VIII

Yangus can cast Nose For Treasure after allocating 16 skill points into his "Humanity" skill.

Dragon Quest IX

This ability is learned with 42 skill points invested into Acquisitiveness skill.

Unfortunately, it only checks the remaining red chests, not blue ones, severely limiting its usefulness.
