The Scale armour is a recurring suit of armour in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest V. It is a low-level piece of equipment that is made from scales.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride

The Scale armour has a Defence bonus of +15. It can be purchased in Faerie Lea for 350 gold and sold for 175 gold. It can be equipped by the Hero, the Parry, Prince Harry, Tuppence, and various monster companions.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation

The Scale armour has a Defence bonus of +15, a Style bonus of +9, and can be equipped by the Hero, Carver, Nevan, Amos, Terry, Lizzie, and Goowain. It can be purchased from Haggleton, Somnia, and Port Haven for 350 gold coins and sold for 262 gold coins.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past

The Scale armour has a Defence bonus of +15, a Style bonus of +9 and can be equipped by the Hero, Kiefer, Sir Mervyn, and Aishe. It can be purchased from Emberdale in the present, L'Arca in the past, and Frobisher for 450 gold coins and sold for 225 gold coins. Two suits can be found in Faraday Castle* in the present and the Tunnel to the Abbey.

The Scale armour has a Defence bonus of +17 and can be equipped by the Hero and Angelo, as well as Morrie in the Nintendo 3DS version. It can be purchased from Alexandria, Port Prospect, and Peregrin Quay for 350 gold coins and sold for 175 gold coins. The armour can also be dropped by Heligators, Crocodogs, and Mermen. It can be made in the Alchemy Pot.

Dragon Quest X

The Scale armour has a Defence bonus of +7, a Style bonus of +2, increases the wearer's Weight by 9, and has an equipment level of 7. It can be equipped by Warriors, Priests, Thieves, Minstrels, Paladins, Armamentalists, Rangers, Item Masters, Dancers, Demon Swordsmen, and Pirates. In the Offline version of the game, it can also be equipped by Mjoll, Raguas, Hussar, and Duston.

Like pieces of armour in X, the Scale armour gained a counterpart for the legs slot. The entire set consists of the torso and leg pieces, a helmet, gauntlets, and boots, and can be made with blacksmithing. If all five pieces are equipped, the wearer gains a +5 bonus to Style.

The recipe book Economies of Scale contains the recipe for the scale armour. It can be found in a treasure chest inside the woodcutter Flint's hut in the Manglegrove.
