The scholar's cap, known as the intelli hat in Japanese, is a recurring piece of headwear in the series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. It is a hat specially designed for spellcasters that enhances their magical abilities.

The scholar's cap has a defence bonus of +33 and a wisdom bonus of +10. It can be made in the Alchemy Pot and can only be equipped by Jessica and Angelo. The hat can be sold for 5,750 gold. It can also be upgraded further into a Thinking cap using Alchemy by combining it with an iron headgear or a sage's robe by combining it with a magic vestment.
