Seed of magic

The Seed of Magic is an item that permanently raises the maximum MP of whoever eats it. Consuming it increases the maximum MP by 3 to 5 points. Seeds of magic can be found in treasure chests, pots, drawers, and are dropped by some enemies. They cannot be purchased at shops.

Although absent from the original NES version, they can be found in the SNES and Gameboy Color remakes of Dragon Quest. Due to text limitations in the Gameboy Color remake of Dragon Quest, Seed of Magic was renamed MysticNut.
