A Seed of resilience (Originally Vitality seeed and DEFseed) is an item that permanently raises defense (or in later versions, resilience) to whoever eats it. It can give off 3-4 defense points. They can be found in treasure chests, pots, drawers, and sometimes are dropped by monsters. They cannot be bought at any store.

Dragon Quest
Although absent from the original NES version, they can be found in the SNES and Gameboy Color remakes of Dragon Quest. Due to text limitations in the Game Boy Color Dragon Quest remake, seed of defense was changed to DEFseed.
