There are two MakiMaki that fight alongside the TimeSage. They are souped up [[Imp|Imps]] in actuality. What makes this battle particularly frustrating is the MakiMaki's ability to use the Time Sand. This item reverts the entire battle to the beginning of the fight, meaning everybody is return to their original states at the start of the battle. This is a mixed blessing. If the player is about to lose all of their party members and a MakiMaki uses the Time Sand, it saves on having to bail out the player's party. However, if they are about to land the killing blow and the Time Sand is used, it leads to frustration. Expect the battle to be drawn out a while as the MakiMaki uses TimeSand at least three times before the entire match is done.
