Etymology

The Soulsucker's Japanese name, Ouroboros shield, refers to an ancient symbol of a serpent eating its own tail which traditionally originated in ancient Egyptian iconography. The ouroboros was eventually adopted as a symbol in Greek mysticism and alchemy. It is often interpreted as an eternal symbol of life, death, and rebirth. The shield depicts a golden snake eating its own tail in an infinity symbol (∞).
