Sword Dance

From Dragon Quest Wiki

Sword Dance is a skill that debuted in Dragon Quest VII. It is a multi-striking dance that hits four random enemies for 70%~75% of a normal attack's power, unless noted otherwise.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

An antic very similar to Sword Dance appears as one of the Lucky Dip possibilities for the Hero, Terry, Goowain, and the Overkilling machine. It is functionally identical to Multifists but is described as being a dance of blades.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

Attacks enemies randomly with successive sword slashes.[1]

In the PSX version of VII, Sword Dance could only be learned as a hybrid skill by reaching rank 5 in the Warrior or Dancer vocations immediately after completing the other. Because Aishe has mastered the Dancer vocation prior to joining, she is capable of learning it faster than other characters after under-going a 30 battle "rehabilitation" period to fulfill the skill's requirement check.

  • In the Nintendo 3DS version, Sword Dance costs 2 MP to use and is learned by reaching rank 8 of the Pirate vocation and rank 3 of the Hero vocation. However, in this version it is an advanced skill that can be used while in those vocations. Aishe will display a unique animation when performing the technique.

In both versions the skill can activate a weapon's special effect per hit, such as the Poison needle's instant-death chance, and despite the name Sword Dance is unaffected by Ban Dance.

It is used by the enemies macho picchus, ceramic sergeants, mild headaches, and major headaches.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Sword Dance can be learned by Dancers by allocating 130 points into their Dance skill and costs 4 MP to use. It has been strengthened to launch four attacks at 120% strength each.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Sword Dance is a secret skill that can be learned by the Hero through the Swordmastery panel in his character builder for 16 skill points, requiring all four of the surrounding panels to be unlocked first. It costs 8 MP to use and will target random enemies. The skill can be used with either a sword or greatsword equipped.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[edit]

Sword Dance costs 15 MP and lashes out with 3~7 randomly-targeting blows at 30% strength of a normal attack. Sword Dance is learned through the Dancer, Maniac, Nokturnus, Party Monster, Pop Diva, Rug Cutter, and Vaudevillain talents.

Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End[edit]

Sword Dance can be learned by Maya for 10 skill points as long as she is level 24 and costs 15 MP to use. It will summon various spectral swords around her in all directions, allowing her to attack while spinning, before she sends them away. If there are many monsters close to her, it is very easy for Maya to rack up a high combo counter. She will be unable to move or perform any other actions until the dance has completed.
