EyepodEdit

The Heyedra and the Eyepod are the same monsters, why they have different articles?

They shouldn't. Also, Sign with 4 tildes. Marandahir (talk) 09:43, 3 June 2016 (CDT)

They are not the same. See here and here. The Eyepod hangs from the ceiling. The Heyedra does not. - icysugarspike (talk) 10:13, 3 June 2016 (CDT)

It is interesting to note that the early sprites of the Heyedra did have it hanging from the ceiling. Perhaps, this is where the confusion comes from. - icysugarspike (talk) 10:17, 3 June 2016 (CDT)
That's why I said it, I think this is a case of a monster getting its name changed for x times in a row and someone believing it's a different monster... Eco (talk) 16:27, 3 June 2016 (CDT)
Well, that someone happens to be DD, which is usually a pretty reliable source. I don't know. You could be right..... - icysugarspike (talk) 11:32, 3 June 2016 (CDT)
Dragon's Den is not immune to making mistakes – remember that the Wiki itself is a subsidiary of DD. This seems to be a rare case of SENA mistranslating the enemy as Eyepod in the DS release of Dragon Quest V. It's called Heyedra again in Dragon Quest II on iOS/Android, which is more recent source. However, Dragon Quest V has also released on iOS/Android – but I'm pretty sure they just copy-pasted the translation scripts from the DS version (rather than working it all from scratch). It's quite clear that the designs are identical in instances where they hang from the ceiling. If someone can confirm with the Japanese names for this enemy, I'm 90% sure that they'll have the exact same Japanese name. I would merge the two articles, but if someone can check the Japanese names, it would be helpful. Marandahir (talk) 11:57, 3 June 2016 (CDT)
From DD (sorry): Eyepod インスペクター and Heyedra あくまのめだま - icysugarspike (talk) 12:05, 3 June 2016 (CDT)
The only correct images that came up when I ran the Japanese characters for each name through Google was Heyedra. The images that came up for Eyepod were, as you can probably guess, strange. - icysugarspike (talk) 12:08, 3 June 2016 (CDT)

Hmm, I've Got It! Their STATS. If they are the same, that would determine it once and for all! - icysugarspike (talk) 12:15, 3 June 2016 (CDT)

Huh. Seems to be one of these rare cases then like Ramia/Empyrea (and Great Godbird, which has the original palette of Empyrea, while Empyrea in Joker 2, Terry's Wonderland 3D, and Super Light has a new palette). In that case, they look quite different but are clearly referenced as being the same bird. This might be a case similar to that, where even though the names are different, they're clearly designed to be the same monster (based on the usage of the name Eyepod and Heyedra for the same hanging creature in some games). Even in previous cases where monsters had slightly different names but similar appearances (see Toxic Zombie/VenomHork and Corpsickle/PoisonZombie), there were clear differences in their appearances (in Corpsickle vs Toxic Zombie's case, different hair color and slightly different clothing color). This also opens up to a larger question of whether monsters of the same creature line should be merged into single articles for more robust and less spread-out content. Golden Sun Universe, an affiliate of ours via NIWA, does that for their monster families, for example. Marandahir (talk) 12:25, 3 June 2016 (CDT)

Sigh, I don't know what to do. - icysugarspike (talk) 12:27, 3 June 2016 (CDT)

Concerning their stats, remember that in some games, Eyelasher/DarkEye is the weaker monster, while Eyepod/EvilEye/Heyedra is the stronger monster, and in other games, it's the opposite (for comparison, Walking Corpse/Hork and Corpse Corporal/Zombie do the same sort of early-installment flip flopping, as do a bunch of other monsters). I'm not so sure the stats in different games would be particularly relevant. Marandahir (talk) 12:29, 3 June 2016 (CDT)
Right after I wrote the last thing ("Hmm, I've Got It!"), I was just thinking that. - icysugarspike (talk) 12:30, 3 June 2016 (CDT)
Return to "Heyedra" page.
