The King of Dirkandor is the ruling royal of the island of Dirkandor. He is a minor character in the original version of Dragon Quest II and a major character in the HD-2D remake. In both games he is depicted as a stout man who enjoys testing the mettle of those asking favours of him by pitting them against ferocious beasts.
In the HD-2D Remake of II, the King is a wise monarch who values strength, but also equally values knowledge, having a vast network of sources across the world that give him information, and is only willing to share it to those who prove themselves. Despite his penchant for fighting, he has a noble heart, and always follows through on his words, honouring his father's wishes to protect an old friend of his. He himself is no slouch when it comes to combat either.

Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit]
The Scions of Erdrick first visit the King after receiving a royal missive from the Aged Priest in Beran following the Prince of Cannock being cured of his curse. The King, turning down the Princess of Cannock's attempt to bribe him, asks that the Scions prove their strength expected of their bloodline to him by fighting in his arena, being well-aware of them already. After the Scions defeat three battles of increasing difficulty, he hands them the Moon Sigil that had come into his possession.
Much later on, when the Scions are seeking a way to Rendarak, they visit the King, who asks that they do battle with His Majesty personally to prove that they are truly worthy of learning of the secret passage to the snow-capped lands.
