Erdrick's sword is the fabled blade wielded by the mythical Hero, passed on to his descendants to keep the realm of Alefgard free from terror. It is a one-handed longsword with a golden center and hilt that resembles a phoenix, set with a red gemstone. The grip appears to be a blue fabric, and the counter weight is a gold sphere encasing a red jewel. Prior to becoming part of the legendary Hero's heraldry, this blade was known as the Sword of Kings.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest[edit]
| Game | Description |
| The sword of the legendary hero Erdrick.[1] |
The legendary blade is found in Dragonlord's Castle, off of the path to the Dragonlord. Equipping it grants the player +40 Attack, a substantial boost from the Flame sword's +28, though unlike the Flame sword it can neither do extra damage nor be used as a tool in combat. Certain third-party documentation claims that the sword is the only weapon that can cut the despot's scales, but this is completely false. That being said, it is strongly advised to acquire the blade to make the final confrontation much easier.
Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit]
| Game | Description |
| The sword of the legendary hero Erdrick.[2] |
The sword is once again found in the Dragonlord's Castle, left there by the previous Hero. Unlike the armour, no one has attempted to restore the sword to its original glory, and the +40 Attack bonus means it will not be effective during the game's finale.
The sword can only be equipped by the Prince of Midenhall in the NES, while the Prince of Cannock can also equip the sword in the SFC and all ports of the remake after.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake[edit]
| Game | Description |
| A weapon once wielded by Erdrick, hero of legend. Can also be used as an item in battle.[3] |
In the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest I, the legendary sword can be found implanted in the ground at the Dragonlord's Castle. It is the strongest weapon in the game that boosts attack for 140, with an added effect when used as an item, it will cast Kaswoosh at groups of enemies.
| Game | Description |
| The sacred sword of Erdrick, hero of legend, albeit in a rusted and rather forlorn form..[4] |
In the remake of Dragon Quest II, a century after the Hero landed the fatal blow on the Dragonlord using the sword of Erdrick, the fabled blade has been left in the Dragonlord's Castle. Due to years of disuse, the legendary sword has been worn-out and rusted over the years, losing its former might. When the Dragonlord's great-grandson met the current scions of Erdrick, he presented them their ancestor's legendary sword as a sign of trust and goodwill that he's their ally against the reign of Hargon. The faded blade boosts attack by 49 and can be equipped by everybody.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]
| Game | Description |
| A sword of legend, said to have been used by the great hero Erdrick himself.[5] |
Whoever pre-ordered the Nintendo 3DS Version of the game in Japan obtained the code to download Erdrick's sword. In game, the sword must be reforged in the Alchemy Pot to reach its true potential. Ye Olde Sword of Erdrick became available to download for international players on February 24, 2017. It has an attack bonus of +20 and can be equipped by the Hero, as well as Jessica Albert and Red if they have enough skill points in Knives. After the sword has been reforged, Erdrick's sword has an Attack bonus of +120, being second to the Dragovian king sword and the most powerful sword for both Jessica and Red.
