The Swindler is a minor character who appears in Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake, having stolen the thief's key from none other than Robbin' 'Ood 'imself.

The Swindler appears in Galenholm after the Hero has reported back to King Lorik after visiting the Shrine of Rain. The con-man is attempting the fleece the Would-Be Heroes by charging 800,000 coins for the thief's key, but is promptly reprimanded by the group's Martial Artist and driven off by the Galenholm citizens. He is later found in the Roadside Inn between Galenholm and Damdara, having been brutalized by Robbin' 'Ood after the hulking barbarian catches up to the thief, and points the Hero in the direction of the Craggy Cave. Humorously, the innkeeper attempts to summon a regiment of knights from Tantegel to pursue the bandit, but the Swindler begs him not to on the grounds of exposing his own theft.
