Talk:Charlock Castle

Move page to "Dragonlord's Castle"[edit]

The newer localizations of the series seem to have dropped the "Charlock Castle" moniker and only appear to use "Dragonlord's Castle", matching with the Japanese version. I propose we rename the page, I'd do it myself but I don't seem to be able to, assuming you need special permissions to do so. BubbleRevolution (talk) 01:41, 20 March 2019 (EDT)

You are right about squenix ditching the charlock moniker, but I think it's a handy term to have around. I mean it's been owned by three people, so does the DL get his name on the deed just because his family is the most recent? The name charlock gives it a slight degree of independence from the assorted demon lords that inhabit it. If the fans say it needs to match the J-version though then I see nothing too serious with changing it. (Follower of Light (talk) 18:01, 20 March 2019 (EDT))
I agree for the general name of the castle it is handy, my main concern is keeping things up to date with the current localizations. I think primarily it's referred to as "the Dragonlord's Castle", though, so hence why I'd propose titling the page with that. BubbleRevolution (talk) 22:22, 20 March 2019 (EDT)
The Denizen Choppasmith is doing a script extraction of the first three games and has uploaded the tools for other fans to rip them directly themselves, so charlock might show up in some npc dialogue somewhere. If it doesn't, then the name change should take effect and a duplicate cape can be made for III's version since the map does have enough substantial changes.(Follower of Light (talk) 21:56, 21 March 2019 (EDT))
I've actually taken a look at the JP script with every line mentioning the castle (there's not that many) and compared it with a playthrough of the English iOS version in which the player goes out of his way to talk to everyone, and the Charlock name doesn't seem to be used, though it's definitely possible there was something I missed so that'll be good to confirm. "Zoma's Citadel" is the only name used in the iOS III, AFAIK.
Interestingly, the King of Tantagel isn't named at all in the newer English localization, and is only referred to as "the King". There's one line in the Japanese version that actually gives him a given name (as "Lars XVI"), and said line doesn't use any name in the new English version. When I compared the two with the NES script, almost every time "King Lorik" and "Charlock Castle" were mentioned, both were just referred to in general terms in the Japanese version, so it seems like the translator decided to add the names to spice things up. (I'd keep King Lorik's page the same though since Lorik is technically the most recent English name we have, but "Dragonlord's Castle" has actually been used as the proper name in a fair amount of the new translations of the series.)
