At first, only regular Slimes appear, but soon the game requires the player to hit Slimes, She-slimes, and eventually Metal slimes in a given pattern. She-slimes and Metal slimes are worth more points, but also give a higher penalty if the player hits the slimes in the wrong order. Medicinal herbs also appear; they are unrelated to the point system, but any Medicinal herbs the player hits will go into the item bag.

At the top of the screen, there is a Rockbomb that serves as a timer. It rolls across the top of the screen, but resets itself whenever the player completes a pattern. If the player takes long enough on a pattern that the Rockbomb rolls into the image of the Hero 5 and explodes, the game of Bruise the Ooze ends and the player's score is calculated.
