The '''Great sabrecub''' is a recurring {{MFamilies}} in the {{DQSeries}}.

Introduced in the {{Super Famicom}} version of {{Dragon Quest V}}, it is the infant form of a [[Great sabrecat]].

==Characteristics==
Great sabrecubs have many of the defining characteristics of their mature alternates, such as spotted fur and and a fiery red mane running from head to back. Other than their lacking stature, the only thing missing from the cubs that the [[Great sabrecat|adults]] have are their developed, saber-like fangs.

The first appearance of the Great sabrecub, and also the first {{MFamilies}} the {{Hero 5}} befriends in the game. Oddly, it is no longer a random encounter monster starting with the [[Nintendo DS]] remake, being replaced by the [[Jailcat]], though the {{Hero 5}} still befriends a Great sabrecub. This replacement may have been performed to make its acceptance into the {{Party 5}} more convincing, as many {{NPC}}s only regard it as a 'strange cat', though a few recognize what it is and what it will eventually become.

Though the species is no longer encountered in the wilderness in the {{DS}} and [[Cell phone]] versions, they can occasionally be seen fighting in the [[Monster Arena]] (see the Gallery below).
