Orichalcum is a recurring item in the Dragon Quest series. It is a special metallic substance that is very rare and precious. It is typically used to create powerful weapons and/or armor in the games in which it appears. This is done using processes such as alchemy and sword tempering.
Dragon Quest VIII
In Dragon Quest VIII, orichalcum is very rare and is useful only for alchemy. It's ingredient of items such as: Sage's Stone, Meteorite Bracer, Metal King Shield, Metal King Armour, Liquid Metal Sword, Megaton Hammer and Goddess Ring. In main game player can obtain 5 pieces of orichacum and 1 more in the post-game. Additionally, monsters Metal King Slime and Pandora's Box both drop this item as rare drop (1/256).
