Starting from Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen, when 8 stronger-variety slimes (usually called Slimifications) are together, they can merge together to form a King slime.

In Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, another variation is performed that combines 3 slimes into a Slime stack.

Thus far though, the technique has not been demonstrated to be used by Metal slimes or Gem jamborees.
