The Wyrtoise is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, introduced in Dragon Quest III. It is a stronger, orange-red variant of the wyrtle.
Characteristics
Wyrtoises are quadrupedal dragons whose bodies are covered by a protective olive green shell like that of a tortoise. They have long necks and tails like dragons, as well as a tall pair of horns on their heads, fins on either side of their faces, sharp fangs, and grey scales running down their backs to the ends of their tails. Their shells and scales offer them a high degree of protection from both physical and magical attacks, and they are capable of further bolstering their defences with the help of both Kabuff and Bounce. The wyrtoise can breathe out blistering hot flames and, in later games, shock enemies with lightning bolts.
