The Rebirth stone was an item introduced in Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line.
In Dragon Quest II, they are rare drops by Liquid metal slimes, and can be used to save your game on the spot anywhere on the map (outside of battle) without having to visit a king or priest. In Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, they are held items that, so long as they are in a character's inventory, will immediately revive them upon defeat - however, it will only serve its purpose once.
