Checking In[edit]

Hey Antiyonder, thanks for all your recent edits. It has been a while since I have been through the Dragon Quest III and IV pages.

I think I have the spam account stuff under control, so hopefully that makes it easier for new users to create accounts. Let me know if there is anything you need. --FlyingRagnar (talk)

We have an official partnership with the Dragon's Den. So any images there can be uploaded here. There are a lot of maps and such that can definitely be useful. Feel free to grab them and upload them if you want to use them. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 15:28, 13 October 2013 (CDT)
Yes. We 100% have permission, which is why I added that option to the drop down, so you can specify that the file came directly from the Dragon's Den. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 08:47, 14 October 2013 (CDT)
Sorry I'm late to reply. Looks like you uploaded 2 images and they look good! I'm not sure what conversions you would need to do? --FlyingRagnar (talk) 13:55, 16 October 2013 (CDT)
The magic key image is just formatted on the page to look like that. The image itself doesn't have that information included. For example, here is the code that places the image on the left: [[Image:DQVIIIMagicKey.png|thumb|left|150px|here is my example]]. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 14:36, 16 October 2013 (CDT)

GIF conversion bug[edit]

Antiyonder, you found an interesting bug. Basically the image conversion was failing for .gif images whenever they needed to be resized. I'm not sure why this effected just .gif images. It's hard to say when the problem started because we have not had very many .gif images uploaded for a long time. Anyway, I have tweaked some parameters and now it appears that gif thumbnailing is working fine. Please give any resizing another shot. You are right, those maps are too big to leave as is on pages. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 01:44, 17 October 2013 (CDT)

No, we don't have specific permission from any other site. However, most images from other sites are not "original" content like some of the Dragon's Den stuff is. Most images are owned by Square Enix since they have not been altered in any way and can be used under Fair Use laws. Dragon's Den has a lot of the maps that have been put together by someone. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 23:05, 17 October 2013 (CDT)
Yes. If I see any that might be an issue I'll let you know. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 08:37, 18 October 2013 (CDT)

Endor Teleportal[edit]

I believe it refers to the latter, the teleportal within the shrine east of the Bazaar. It's important because it's the only outside link for that continent to another continent. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 08:18, 22 October 2013 (CDT)

Re: Question[edit]

I removed Zenithia.com. Zenithian told me he was going to let the site go down eventually, I just forgot to update the link. I've also added Realm of Darkness as an Affiliate. Good find! --FlyingRagnar (talk) 20:21, 23 October 2013 (CDT)

Images[edit]

Antiyonder, I've added a new permission template you choose when uploading images from Realm of Darkness. It should appear in the drop down list. You can also keep putting a link to the original image location, I think that is fine. The new template is nice because it also helps keep track of all the images from Realm of Darkness (see Category:Realm of Darkness files).

Also, consider changing the names of files you upload to be a little more definitive. For example, all of those new town images should probably say "DQ III" and also the console version they are from ("SNES" I think). That way, when we have 30 images of new town uploaded, it is easier to tell them apart. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 08:57, 24 October 2013 (CDT)

I would be as specific as you can be for every file. It makes it a lot easier to tell what things are when shown in a list. It's not a critical thing, but it's always more time consuming to go clean things up later than if you had done it at first. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 14:16, 24 October 2013 (CDT)

Re: Mamon[edit]

I don't think they should. Mamon is a town and Mamon Mine is a dungeon. It makes more sense for those to be separate pages. Mamon Mine also has a lot of information that goes with it due to its purpose in Chapter 5 of the game. So that would be a lot to cram into one page when we don't really need to. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 08:44, 29 October 2013 (CDT)

Re: Maria Image[edit]

All of the content on this wiki originaly came from Wikia. This is why you see the Wikia reference box on many of our pages. Wikia uses the same license as we do on our wiki. Under this license we can use any content that Wikia has so long as we give credit. Here is the link to the license information if you are interested (link). So, you do not need to contact the original uploader. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 08:52, 7 November 2013 (CST)

Re: Nadiria[edit]

I would say put it under Dread Realm if that is the name used in the game. I have never made it to the end of DQVI on the DS, so I did not realize that they used a different name. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 07:59, 15 January 2014 (CST)

Re: Dragon Quest VIII[edit]

Nope. I have not completed it. I have a copy and started it a couple years ago, but never got very far. It's still on my long term todo list. Sorry I can't help with the spoilers. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 19:30, 16 March 2014 (CDT)

Re: Image issues[edit]

I fixed the template for Cursed Belt. Take a look and let me know if you want it different.

I'm not sure what's wrong with pages with apostrophes in their page name. That's a good find. I'll have to do some research and try to figure out what the problem is. Might be best to just re-upload the image to a title with no apostrophe.

Re: Dragon Quest VI[edit]

Sounds good to me! Thanks for the heads up and all the updates. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 23:23, 30 June 2015 (CDT)

Dragon's Den?[edit]

I've been accessing it just fine. Here's the link I used, just in case. - icysugarspike (talk) 05:42, 4 May 2016 (CDT)

Fact-checking resources[edit]

Just in case you feel like avoiding going to 50 gamefaqs boards to find one bit of elusive information.

Hard data[edit]

http://www7b.biglobe.ne.jp/~dqwiz/ The one most regarded by the gamefaqs crowd. Its ceased updates as of VII's remake, but covers monster resistances, stats, equipment price, you name it.

https://www.d-navi.info/ Absolutely the best resource for IX's data, providing all the calculations for skills and spells, as well as hidden equipment stats.

http://dq-gh.com/ Not quite as detailed as Navi, but they do provide images for most games, and it pays to have additional sources

Being the Pain in the Arse that I am[edit]

Would love to see this image larger! File:DQVII gathering.png Do you have it, by any chance? - icysugarspike (talk) 21:58, 4 October 2016 (CDT)

Looking for opinions on potential features[edit]

In an effort to better serve our readers, I'd like to set up a sort of request feature for non-editors to ask for focused content additions. Say, more trivia on the development staff for example. Naturally, this is easier said than done and I'd like to get the view points of all the main editors on the subject--just imagine your self from a casual fan's perspective, and think about what would be the best way for you to interact with the wiki in a method that's cleaner than making countless user discussion page edits. This won't be implemented immediately or anything, so no rush just yet. (Follower of Light (talk) 11:56, 23 December 2016 (CST))

Formatting Bug[edit]

Actually the bug I was referring to was one on the enemy templates like Template:DQ8Enemy that caused the monster name and game logo to get pushed down if another infobox was too big. I hopefully fixed it, but if you see any issues with that let me know! :)

And I've gotten the refresh bug too, except sometimes even refreshing doesn't work! Very annoying, but unfortunately out of my hands. Only an admin like User:FlyingRagnar will be able to fix that.TheCodingGamer (talk) 14:47, 10 April 2017 (CDT)

Thanks for applying those monster cards![edit]

Thanks a ton for beating me to the punch and getting those cards set up on the recruitable monster pages. You actually got the formatting the exactly how I envisioned it as well, taking priority over the few bits of official art and being set in the upper right corner. I owe you one Anti! (Follower of Light (talk) 09:11, 12 February 2018 (EST))

Sorry for stepping over your head on the DQB template[edit]

I was filling out the red links for the monster items and saw the snafu taking place, didn't mean to come off as abrasive if I did by taking charge like that. Follower of Light (talk) 19:58, 11 February 2019 (EST)

Hey, no problem. I just decided to set it up and leave it to those who are more knowledgeable on the Builder games. Antiyonder (talk) 21:36, 11 February 2019 (EST)

Dubious Dirkandor Claims[edit]

Hey there, I've actually never heard of that rumor/claim, either. After doing a quick search on the main Japanese wiki, apparently it was in one of the DQ side novels/books? I'm not sure how I feel about the canonicity of side books/manga like that applying to the main games. It's also mentioned on Kandata/Robbin' 'Ood's Japanese Wikipedia article. Aphelion (talk) 00:13, 31 January 2022 (EST)

DQ3 Item Template[edit]

Thank you for the heads up! It's been a few years since I played the Mobile version of III so I didn't even realize that version didn't have descriptions. It's been nixed now and looks a lot cleaner now. Originally when I was testing out the template, it was based on some earlier ones for I & II which still have descriptions on smartphones/Switch.
