Holy water, (also known as fairy water or repellent), is a repellent the Dragon Quest series. It is used to avoid random encounters, simulating the Holy Protection spell. In Dragon Quest IV, it can be used to give minor damage to monsters in battle.  In Dragon Quest IX, its function was altered slightly to simulate the Vanish ability.

Holy water bottles can be crafted in the final chapter and in free play mode in the Diviner's alter using pure water.

It's primary use is for purifying the cursed land of Tantegel. By doing so, circular areas of 9x9 blocks can be restored to their former glory. Purification is key to obtaining certain materials needed to craft new block types, items and equipment.

Aside from it's main use, the holy water can be used to craft other items like the Sheen salts -that remove cursed equipment- and the Yggdrasil Essence -which revives the player instantaneously if they had it in their inventory-.

Captain N and Princess Lana purchase this at the item shop as it's the only thing left.  Unlike Dragon Quest, the effect of the water is that it can be used against evil magic.  It's ultimately used to remove the Cursed necklace from Simon Belmont.
Kevin Keene/Captain N and Princess Lana purchased this at the weapon shop along a map to the Cave of the Axe knight as they're the only thing left.  Though the price for the water is unspecified, Kevin and Lana were able to get it for 6 Gold Coins as the shopkeeper considered it a hero's discount.
