The Rebirth stone was an item introduced in Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line.

In Dragon Quest II, they are rare drops by Liquid metal slimes, and can be used to save your game on the spot anywhere on the map (outside of battle) without having to visit a king or priest. When you load a game saved using a rebirth stone, you are transported to the town in which you last saved. They can be sold for 7,500 gold coins.

In Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, they are held items that, so long as they are in a character's inventory, will immediately revive them upon defeat - however, each rebirth stone can only serve its purpose once before being consumed.
