The '''watermaul wand''' is a recurring weapon in the {{DQSeries}}, first being a [[Wand Weapon Family|one handed staff]] before being reclassified as a [[Heavy Wand (weapon type)|two-hander]] in more recent games. Its effects have differed from title to title, but it is associated with the roaring ocean.

The Watermaul wand has an {{Attack}} bonus of +74 and a {{Style}} bonus of +42. When used as an item, it casts [[Tidal Wave]]. [[Ashlynn]], [[Nevan]], and [[Terry]] can equip it. It is found in [[Poseidon's Palace]], thought the [[Ultimate Key]] is required. It can also be bought for 14,000 {{Gold}} in [[Felonia]] or sold for 10,500 {{Gold}}. Lastly, [[thriller wave]]s and [[killer wave]]s drop them 1/256 of the time.

The Watermaul wand has an {{Attack}} bonus of +74 and a {{Style}} bonus of +42. It can be equipped by the {{Hero 7}}, [[Maribel Mayde]], and [[Sir Mervyn]]. In the {{PS1}} version, if used as a tool in battle, it uses the [[Tsunami]] skill. However, in the {{3DS}} version, it was upgraded to cast the [[Coral Grief]] spell in battle, due to the real-life tragedy of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.

It can be purchased from the [[Den of the Dwarves]] in the present for 14,000 {{Gold}} and sold for 7,000 {{Gold}}. One can also be found in the [[Den of the Dwarves]] in the past in the treasure room after lighting [[The Beacon]].

The wand is necessary to have equipped in order to complete [[List of quests in Dragon Quest IX: 1-50|quest #39]] and continue the plot into the post-game section. The watermaul wand can be further upgraded into the [[Tsunami staff]] by combining it with a [[Celestial skein]] and an [[Ethereal stone]].
