Machine Guardian Stones are an event currency, described as being ancient, plentiful, and valued by collectors despite having no intrinsic purpose other than collectibility . They can be exchanged in a limited shop for:

  • event Transmuter Vouchers
  • a Mechanical Monocle accessory
  • Metal tickets
  • Killing Machine Memories
  • the Killer Cannon character pose
  • the Killing Machine Effect background
  • the Sela at the Tavern background
  • medium Nodestones
  • Shrine Keys
  • Medium Stamina refills
  • Co-Op Passes
  • Armour & Weapon ores

The first series of ruins, Machine Ruins, was unlocked after completing Chapter 1 of the event's story and could be challenged for 15 Stamina. It features 3 difficulty options: Hard, Very Hard, and Nightmare. Players can earn the Machine Family Frame and Machine Ruins Delver title for completing feats tied to the Machine Ruins. The boss monster of the Machine Ruins is a Killing Machine.

Story

Chapter 1

The event begins with the Hero, Nina, Goopy, and Roly at "a tavern somehwere," resting after an adventure. Here, they are suddenly approached by a woman who is fascinated with Roly. She introduces herself as Sela, a traveling merchant who is interested in guardian stones, and wants to employ the Hero's assistance in gathering them. Sela informs the party that these stones can be found in nearby ruins, but can't gather them herself because of the mechanized monsters that populate it.
