The thief's key was filched off of [[Robbin' 'Ood's Descendant|Robbin' 'Ood]] by a shyster peddler known as the [[Swindler]] shortly before the events of the game. The {{Hero 1}} first sees the key in [[Galenholm]] where the Swindler is trying to sell it to the [[Would-Be Heroes]] for an outrageous fee only to be rebuked by the townsfolk and make his way south to the [[Roadside Inn]]. There the Swindler is beaten to a pulp by an angry Robbin' 'Ood after the bandit catches up, and takes the key with him back to his lair in the eastern [[Craggy Cave]]―he will give it to the Hero if the player rescues his missing henchman from the basement floor of the cave.
