The '''Tortoise shell''' is a recurring set of armour in the {{DQSeries}}. This large shell serves as makeshift protection, and does not slow down the wearer.

The Tortoise shell has a {{Defence}} bonus of +15, and it can be worn by [[Mage]]s, [[Merchant]]s and [[Gadabout]]s. It can be purchased in [[Reeve]] for 330 {{Gold}}. It only appears in remake versions.

The Tortoise shell has a {{Defense}} bonus of +33 and can be purchased for 2,500 {{Gold}} from [[Lodestar Harbour]], [[Zoomingale]], [[Mostroferrato]], and [[Gotha]] Castle. The shell can be sold for 1,250 {{Gold}}. It can only be worn by [[Sancho]] and several monster companions.

The Tortoise shell has a {{Defence}} bonus of +33, but reduces {{Dtyle}} by 15. It may be equipped by [[Nevan]], [[Amos]], and all of the slime recruits. The tortoise shell can be purchased from [[Aridea]] and [[Howsworth]] for 2,500 {{Gold}} and sold for 1,875 {{Gold}}. It can also be dropped by [[Marrow escapee]]s, [[Armoured wartoise]]s, and [[Plated goretoise]]s.

The Turtle shell (known as the Tortoise shell in the {{3DS}} version) has a defense bonus of +37. Only [[Yangus]] and [[Morrie]] can wear it. It can be purchased from [[Neos]] and the campsite west of [[Argonia]] for 2,300 {{Gold}} and sold for 1,150 {{Gold}}.

Upgrades to [[Tortoiseshell armour]] when combined with a [[Tortoiseshell]] and two lumps of [[Emerald moss]].

The shell increases the [[Builder (Dragon Quest Builders 2)|Builder's]] {{Defence}} by +23. The necessary materials are 5 bones and 1 grass fibre, and the recipe is learned after defeating the strong [[Crabber dabber doo]] on [[Furrowfield]] island.
