The Hero of Dragon Warrior IV is the son (or daughter) of a human and a Zenithian. Raised in a small unnamed town north of Branca, the hero is a childhood friend of a girl named Celia. When monsters attack the town to kill the hero, Celia uses the Transform spell to look like the hero and she is killed along with everyone else in the town while the hero remains hidden in an underground storeroom. The hero then sets off on a journey to discover their true identity and save the world.
