The Ultimate Key (Originally Final Key) is a recurring magical item that can change its appearance to fit any possible lock. It is necessary to advance the later stages of a game's story, usually by opening a jail door.
Types of Doors[edit]
The Ultimate Key opens all the types of doors in Dragon Quest III. This includes thief doors (yellow, plain), magic doors (silver, ornate), and final doors (grey, prison-like). As the final key opens all 3 types of doors, it renders the other key types obsolete.

The Ultimate Key is found at the Shallows Shrine, which requires a mini-quest to be completed in order to enter the shrine.

The Ultimate Key is obtained after defeating Bjørn the Behemoose. It is necessary to obtain the Zenithian armour in Crocodilopolis as well opening the door in the Estuary Sanctuary leading to the portal to Nadiria.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
The Ultimate Key is found at Sunken Ship, which requires a Lorelei's Harp to be found.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
The Ultimate Key is found at Cathedral of Light.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]
The Ultimate Key is given by Marta shortly before she is murdered by Rhapthorne. It is needed to find the pirate's map.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]
The Ultimate Key is obtained in the Gortress after defeating Goreham-Hogg. It is needed to free the captured celestrians.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]
The Ultimate Key is obtained in a chest located in Havens Above. The Key is only obtainable in the post-game.
