The Rendarak Shrine is the sole beacon of hope in the bleak tundra of Rendarak.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit]
The shrine is the final respite for the player before entering the gauntlet that is the Hall of Hargon. The Priest will fully heal the party and restore their MP, but is unable to revive the dead; should the player not have access to the Kazing spell or Yggdrasil leaves then the only recourse is to use the one-way teleportal the connects to the Shrine South of Rendarak. Doing so will force the player to traverse the difficult Passage to Rendarak all over again.
Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit]
The shrine has been redesigned to resemble a traditional Christian church, with the inside remaining barren save for the teleportal, two pews, & a humble altar along the north wall.
The priest welcomes the Scions of Erdrick and bestows upon the the ultimate key. The children are astounded to see survivors in Rendarak after Hargon's forces destroyed the kingdom long ago; they question him on the sense of remaining in the frozen plateau and offer to escort him and the nun to a safer locale, but the Priest declines. Instead he asks that the four join him in prayer, restoring their HP and MP; when spoken to after this he will perform the usual priestly duties such as curing poison and saving the game. Speaking to the nun provides no such services, she merely advises the player to wrap up any loose ends before taking on Hargon.
When the Scions of Erdrick visit the chuch during the game's ending, they see it laying in ruins. The Princess of Moonbrooke concludes that that the Priest and nun were lingering spirits whom died when Hargon conquered Rendarak so many decades ago, and remained bound to the shrine to aid those who would dispose of the nihilistic cultist. The Prince of Cannock then innocently shouts out to the father and sister, stating that they are victorious. As he ponders whether the spirits heard him, the Princess of Cannock notes a rainbow has formed overhead.
