Sobering Slap is the name of two distinct abilities in the Dragon Quest series. One slaps an ally out of confusion or wakes them up and the other prepares the user to counter a physical attack when attacked. In the 3DS version of Dragon Quest VII, Sobering Slap is renamed to Rude Awakening.
