Granvania (known as Gotha in the DS remake) is a both a castle town and a kingdom in Enix's Dragon Quest V. The castle is surrounded by thick forests and impassable mountains and is located south of a lake which empties into the ocean.
Each King of Granvania must pass a trial in the nearby Ordeal Cave to prove their worth before they are allowed to ascend the throne. Granvania's monarchs include Papas and the hero from Dragon Quest V.
Granvania has a vault for storing gold, and a tavern where characters and recruited monsters may be exchanged, similar to Luisa's Place from Dragon Warrior III
