Sap is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it has a 100% chance to lower an enemy's defence if the target has no resistance.
Early on, this spell is useful on durable enemies, including bosses. However, as the game progresses, some monsters gain resistance to this spell and total immunity becomes common.
