The recovery ring is an accessory that first appeared in 1996 Super Famicom remake of Dragon Quest III. It is a miraculous little bauble that heals the wearer was they walk about, easing the strain of the party's healer.

Localization history

The Japanese name いのちのゆびわ (ring of life) was first localized in English as the recovery ring in 2005 for the international release of Dragon Quest VIII. It was retained for the 2008 localization of Dragon Quest IV but was replaced with the life ring term in the 2010 localization of Dragon Quest IX, and then reinstated in 2014 with the Android/iOS localization of Dragon Quest III. Beginning with the 2016 localization of Dragon Quest VII the recovery name has been retired outside of reuse in iterations of Dragon Quest III.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation

The recovery ring is an accessory that was added in the 1996 Super Famicom remake. It has a Resilience boost of +25, restores the wearer's HP while walking, and can be equipped by all vocations. It's found in a chest at the Inn of Rimuldar.

• In the Super Famicom and Game Boy Color versions, another life ring can be received as a reward at the fourth Treasures n' Trapdoors track in Kol. Another life ring can be found at the fifth Treasures n' Trapdoors track in Jipang while examining a floor tile. However, like all accessories that boost the wearer's resilience, the extra Resilience is not calculated to the wearer's max HP when leveling up.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen

The recovery ring was added in the 2001 PSX remake. It has a Defence bonus of +15, restores the wearer's HP while walking, and can be equipped by all characters. It can be found in the Fungeon.

The recovery ring has a Defence of 15, restores the wearer's HP while walking, and can be equipped by all characters. It can be obtained through several means:

• Found in a chest in Rydon's Tower.
• A possible item drop from a Pandora's box
• Created through alchemy by mixing a Prayer ring with a Seed of life.

Additionally, the ring is part of several alchemy recipes:

• Recipe: Uber sacred armour = Sacred armour + Ruby of protection + Recovery ring (Exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version)
• Recipe: Life bracer = Gold bracer + Recovery ring
