The Skipper is a monster that was introduced in Dragon Quest VIII.
Characteristics
The skipper is a peculiar creature that uses a large leather boot reinforced with spiked iron plates for both shelter and combat. In certain animations, its body is revealed to be a thin tendril hanging from the bottom of its furry head. It will usually first be encountered in the deepest recesses of the Waterfall Cave, and it's a decently powerful monster for that area.

Skippers can pop out of holes in the ground in the shrine on Palaish Isle, similar to mischievous moles.
