The Sands of Time are an optional item in Dragon Quest IV. Appearing as an hourglass filled with sand, they can be found on the Seaside Village beach at nighttime, when the tide falls. When used in battle, they reset the battle to what it was one turn earlier, giving the player opportunities to rectify mistakes and bad turns of luck.
