Metal monsters in the Dragon Quest series generally give more Experience than other monsters encountered in the same area; as such, they are frequently sought out by players to level-up characters.
Some metal monsters (Gem slime and various Gold golem) give much more Gold and less Experience than other monsters found in the same area.
Most metal monsters are difficult to defeat, as they have a high Defense; however, they also tend to have few HP. One exception to this is the Gold golem, which has a more normal Defense and HP.
