The Orochi is a many headed monster found in Enix's Dragon Warrior III; it and the events surrounding Jipang and the arrival of Erdrick are based on the Japanese legend of the Yamata no Orochi.
In Dragon Warrior III, the Orochi demands the sacrifice of young girls from the village of Jipang. When Erdrick defeated the Orochi in the Cave of Jipang, it dropped the Orochi Sword, before retreating through a portal to Himiko's Palace in Jipang. When it became clear that the Orochi was pretending to be Himiko, Erdrick again fought the Orochi, slaying it and freeing the people of Jipang.
