Toxic Dagger is a recurring ability in the franchise. It tries to envenom a target.

Dragon Quest VIII
Jessica can use Toxic Dagger as a knife technique after allocating 6 skill points into the associated skill. Unlike most other skills, toxic dagger's success depends entirely upon the foe's resistance to poison and does not have a fixed accuracy rate. After allocating 66 points, it is replaced by the more potent Toxic Sword. Both techniques deal an additional 25% damage.
Dragon Quest IX
A swift strike that has a fixed 50% chance to envenomate an enemy. Despite the similar name, this skill has no relation to the Poison Dagger weapon. Costs 2 MP to use and is learned after 3 points have been invested into the Knife skill
