Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary LineEdit
The Wellspring of the Hero is a required dungeon in order to find the Prince of Cannock. It is typically the first dungeon visited in the game. The Hero must speak with the old man near the lake in order to ascertain the whereabouts of the Prince of Cannock and continue his search. Purifying oneself at the spring before undergoing a journey is a tradition of Midenhall.

Dragon Quest II HD-2D RemakeEdit
The cave's layout remains mostly unchanged after the transition to HD, though it now has towering stalagmites ensconcing the path to the spring and colossal stone replicas of Erdrick's sword stand before the roaring waterfall behind the spring platform. The biggest change is that the Princess of Cannock has tagged along as an AI-controlled party member to help the Prince of Midenhall track down her brother. Additionally, the old man who administers the ablutions has been given a proper title as Keeper of the Wellspring.
