Appearances
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai
Dai is a young boy who dreams of becoming a Hero.
Story
Brass raises his adoptive grandchild Dai on the paceful island of monsters, Dermline Island. Dai has always dreamt of becoming a hero, but the old lump shaman insist on raising him as a mage without much success. One day, a party of fake heroes arrives on the island, and decieves Dai, harms the friendly monsters and kidnaps Gomechan. Dai, with the help of some monster friends follows the fake heroes's ship and manages to save Gomechan. The king of the kingdom the impostors were headed to, King Romos, grants him the title of "little hero" and gives him the Crown of Champions.
Some months later, Princess Leona of Papnica, accompanied by her sage teacher Baron and the kingdom's bishop Temujin and some guards arrive to Dermline to meet the little hero and have her undergo a ritual to become a sage. Dai guides them towards the cave they need to visit, and Leona gives him the Knife of Papnica, an orichalcum weapon that has been passed down in her family. Once in the cave, Dai and Leona find an evil scorpion, which inflicts Leona with poison. It's then when Baron and Temujin reveal their complot to have Leona killed during this trip. Dai, unknowingly, unleashes the power of his dragon crest and is able to cast powerful spells he wasn't able to cast before: first Zapple to defeat the scorpion and later Kashooshle when Temujin unveils his modified killing machine and threatens to hurt Brass. Dai then cuts a hole on Temujin's armor using the Knife of Papnica and casts one last spell: Sizzle.
After saving Princess Leona, she sends Hero Avan and his apprentice Popp to Dermline. Dai soon becomes a student under Avan's guidance and learns new skills.

Personality
Dai is a kind, brave, headstrong hero who fights for justice. He initially comes off as naïve but sometimes he's not an idiot, he has a mischief side and always had a strong sense of justice, largely because of a result that Dai was raised by monsters and he's the only human feral child on Dermline Island, lack of contact with humanity at large which leaves him only to assume to best intentions out of the people he meets with, being largely unable to deduce second intentions.
Dai's most defining trait is his courage because it is the secret weapon of the hero, never backing down and fighting for true justice, regardless of the difference in strength between himself and his foes, always trying to overcome his present obstacles, a trait that has won over many individuals to his side and help him, for he has a heart of a true hero. In both instances, although shocked at the malice he is witnessing, he is nonetheless brave enough to hold his ground and fight back being completely capable of discerning between right and wrong and fight against perceived wrongdoing like when Dai refused to run away from the battle of Flazzard even know the Blizzblaze Curse Field drain his powers but continue to fight, but making him stubborn and reckless as he almost got killed which made maam no choice but to knock him out to escape.
Being a feral child, Dai gets along impressively well with the monsters of Dermline Island, acting as a leader of the pack of sorts as the monsters follow his every directive with both sides treating each other as a genuine family, his love for his family is a weakness as see when his saw all monsters of Dermline Island are turning evil because as a result of Hadlar's influence.
